Regional Social Dialogue Conference 29th October 2019 Arusha Tanzania

The EATUC and EAEO Secretariats in collaboration with their international partners namely Danish Industry (DI) and the Danish Trade Union Development Agency (DTDA – formerly named LO/FTF Council) organized the regional conference on Social Dialogue in East Africa on 29th October 2019 in Arusha Tanzania.

The regional conference brought together more than thirty participants from trade union confederations and employer’s organizations across EAC Partner States as well as cooperating partners from DI, DTDA, FNV and the EAC Secretariat.

The main agenda of the conference was to discuss how social partners in East Africa can enhance social dialogue to promote sound systems of labour relations that paves the way for more well-functioning and sustainable labour markets with industrial peace and poverty reduction.

The conference also traced the growing awareness amongst employers’ and workers’ organizations of the need to work together on common interests and to reach acceptable solutions by consensus and compromise.

Social partners shared experiences and success stories in regards to improving free movement of labour within the EAC, i.e. status of implementation of the provisions in the EAC Common Market Protocol, and how social partners can push for this agenda at EAC and national levels.
