EATUC Survey Report on GBV

Violence and harassment in the workplace—particularly gender-based violence—remain major challenges across the East African labor landscape. Recognizing the urgent need to address these issues, the East African Trade Union Confederation (EATUC) conducted a comprehensive study among its affiliates. The objective was to identify practical policies and actions that trade unions can implement to eliminate all forms of violence and harassment in the world of work.

This initiative includes the active participation of EATUC’s member organizations: the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU-K) in Kenya, the National Organization of Trade Unions (NOTU) in Uganda, the Zanzibar Trade Union Congress (ZATUC), the Trade Union Congress of Tanzania (TUCTA), the Confederation of Trade Unions of Burundi (COSYBU), and the Confederation of Trade Unions of Rwanda (CESTRAR). Through this collaborative effort, the report highlights the role of trade unions in shaping safer, more inclusive, and equitable workplaces across the region.

Explore the findings, recommendations, and success stories as EATUC and its affiliates work toward a violence-free world of work for all.
