Sub-Regional Forum on Labour Migration 28th February – 1st March 2024

The Sub-regional Knowledge and Experience Sharing Forum on Labour Migration was held from February 28th to March 2nd, 2024, in Moshi, Tanzania. The forum brought together labour migration coordinators, Committee of Experts from EATUC affiliates, and ILO ACTRAV, who facilitated some of the sessions. The objective of the forum was to share knowledge and experiences on labour migration governance in the EAC, address migrant workers’ issues both within the EAC and beyond, and explore how EATUC affiliates can collaborate to improve the protection and promotion of migrant workers’ rights through advocacy and the voices of trade unions in labour migration governance spaces and processes. Additionally, the forum focused on ongoing labour migration programs from EATUC affiliates.
It was observed that many EATUC affiliates have established programs on labour migration and have made significant progress in addressing migrant issues in the EAC. For example, some have signed MoUs with other confederations, particularly those from Gulf States, while others have set up resource centers for migrant workers. The forum has fostered collaboration and established a foundation for ongoing sub-regional dialogue on migration issues among EATUC affiliates.
