East Africa Women Roundtable Strategy Meeting

EATUC organized a two-day regional meeting on the East Africa Women Roundtable (EAWR) strategy to support EATUC affiliates in advocating for the ratification and implementation of ILO Convention 190. The meeting was held from June 27th to 28th, 2024, in Arusha, Tanzania, and brought together women from EATUC affiliates, along with the ILO gender representative.
This was the first meeting since the launch in November 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya. The strategy meeting was pivotal for establishing the structure of the EAWR, defining its programs, and outlining how it will coordinate its initiatives at both the sub-regional and national levels. During the meeting, leaders of EAWR, with representation from all EATUC affiliates, elected coordinators and formulated the key mandates and priorities for EAWR. Moving forward, EATUC’s responsibility will be to ensure coordination of the EAWR’s programs and activities. The goal is to engage more women from diverse backgrounds to join EAWR. Additionally, the EATUC Women’s Committee was restructured.
